Boko Haram: Army prepares for massive offensive

  The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah has said the army will soon launch a massive military offensive to end insurgency in the North-East. Minimah made this known when he addressed troops of 2 Brigade Port Harcourt at a two-day visit to army formations and units in Rivers on Sunday. According to him, military hardware’s will soon arrive into the country in furtherance of the Federal Government resolve to end Boko Haram activities. “The equipments ordered by the Federal Government will soon be coming into the nation’s shores in a few weeks time. “As soon as the equipments come in, we will launch a major offensive toward ending this madness of insurgency in the North-East of the country,” he said. Boko Haram leader declares Gwoza ‘Islamic Caliphate’ but DHQ says Boko Haram’s claim empty,

Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau has declared the creation of an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza town in Borno state seized by the insurgents earlier this month. “Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in (the town of) Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate,” Abubakar Shekau said in the 52-minute video obtained by AFP on Sunday According to AFP Shekau declared that Gwoza now has “nothing to do with Nigeria”. “By the grace of Allah we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,” said Shekau, who has been designated a global terrorist by the United States and sanctioned by the UN Security Council. Nigerian Doctors suspend strike

Doctors demonstrating against sack of resident doctors Striking members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) have suspended their strike. The NMA through its official twitter handle @nmanigeria announced the suspension of the seven weeks strike. “BREAKING!!! NMA rose from an Emergency Delegates Meeting and decided that the # NMAStrike be suspended with ALL Doctors resuming duties ISQ. ” This means that NO Doctor in the country would be victimised in whatever form as a result of participation in the # NMAStrike . Details later, “the association announced early Sunday morning. According to Esohe Blessing ‏ @ dresoheblessing    the strike was suspended following the outcome of voting by members. Out of 265 total vote cast, 199 voted for suspension (75 %), 96 voted against. (24%) ,while persons abstained. Ebola: Custom impounds trailer load of monkey meat

Seized monkey meat being burnt Seized monkey meat The Nigeria Custom Service has joined the fight against the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus by  impounding  a trailer load of smoked meat suspected to be monkey meat being imported into the country through the Jibia border in Katsina state. Monkey is suspected to be one of the major source of the virus which has caused the death of five Nigerians. The trailer loaded with the meat was seized by the Federal Operation Unit “zone B” led by OC of the team, Assistant Comptroller, Gambo Azare. The Nation gathered that the meat was destroyed under the supervision of the Comptroller, Federal Operation, Zone B of the service, ATS Maina and the deputy governor of Katsina State represented by the Commissioner for health.
