Isa, of NNPC Staff Clinic, also said Nigerians should avoid  fish and bush meat, as well as wash their hands regularly as  a part of precautionary measures against infection. He made the call in Kaduna during a public awareness lecture  with the theme “Ebola: Deadly, Untreatable but  Preventable,” organized by the Kaduna Refining and  Petrochemical Company (KRPC). The consultant urged the populace to reduce their contacts  with people, avoid unsafe sex and dispose of the dead with  utmost caution. “Do not use your hands to carry dead animals, make sure you  wear gloves or use stick to carry them  and always use bleach in your household to disinfect.” In another contribution, Dr Saleh Sagir, the Manager, Plant Clinic of KRPC said residents must improve on their persona

(LAGOS) Nigeria’s Lagos has 10 confirmed cases of Ebola, up from seven at the last count, although only two so far have died, including the Liberian who brought the virus in, the health minister said on Monday. All were people who had had primary contact with Patrick Sawyer, who collapsed on arrival at Lagos airport on July 25th and later died, Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told a news conference. A nurse who treated him not knowing what it was and without protective gear also died. “As at today, 77 primary and secondary contacts of the index case have been placed under surveillance or isolation,” he added. The latest case was also a nurse who had had primary contact with Sawyer. “When she got ill, we then brought her into isolation. Catholic churches stop handshake

Catholic churches in Lagos have been advised to stop handshakes and hugs during the mass. The “sign of peace” is a symbolic gesture of the church, which had thrived for decades to encourage communal living among members. During the sign of peace, faithful either offer handshakes to those seated around them or hug those close to them. But during mass across Lagos State metropolis, parishioners skipped the tradition, causing drama, murmur and stare among members. Most individuals simply waved at those who sat beside them and continued with the rest of the programmes. This came as the Catholic archbishop advised members to stop the tradition to curtail the spread of the virus. Also, clerics were advised to be cautious when on sick rounds and during the anointing of the sick. The use of holy water, wherein parishioners deep their hands into a bowl outside churches, has been discontinued till further notice. Nawaooo, All this because of Ebola Virus

Ebola: Kunle, Gabriel Afolayan isolated at Seychelles

Alot has been said or written about the Ebola Virus, which is currently ravaging some parts of Africa. Consequently, as part of efforts to fight the scourge, some yet-to-be-infested countries have started taking pre-emptive measures. Only recently, Saudi Arabia suspended the issuance of pilgrimage visa and by extension, any flight from West Africa coming into the Arab country. Following that lead, though in a more subtle manner, the Republic of Seychelles has started screening visitors from West African countries. As a result, top Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Kunle Afolayan and his brother, actor Gabriel Afolayan, came under thorough scrutiny, recently. According to Afolayan, an award-winning filmmaker, “We landed in the Republic of Seychelles safe and sound. Gabriel and I were isolated from the other Kenyan crew that went we us and we were made to sign plenty forms because we came from West Africa (Ebola region). Gabriel didn’t have his yellow fever card, so he ha

‘Ebola not caused by witchcraft’

A rights group in the United Kingdom (UK), the Witchcraft and Human Rights Information Network (WHRIN), has called for more enlightenment on the Ebola virus. WHRIN’s Executive Director Gary Foxcroft said superstitious beliefs and inadequate health facilities may lead to the spread of the virus. The activist urged the United Nations (UN) bodies, governments, aid agencies and civil society organisations (CSOs) to demystify the causes of the outbreak. He noted that proper enlightenment would enable communities to understand that the disease is not caused by witchcraft to curb its spread. “Ebola is not caused by witchcraft. Rather, it is an infectious disease with a rational, scientific explanation of how it was created, how it is spread and how it can be treated. There is a huge amount of work that needs to be done to demystify the medical condition that is commonly associated with witchcraft across West Africa. They need to use all media tools at their disposal to s
