Ebola scare: ‘Stay off Suya’, Health professional warns in Kaduna

(KADUNA)
A consultant obstetrician and  gynecologist, Dr Madziga Isa,  on Monday advised Nigerians to suspend the eating of roast meat, locally known as Suya, to guard against contracting Ebola virus.
Isa, of NNPC Staff Clinic, also said Nigerians should avoid  fish and bush meat, as well as wash their hands regularly as a part of precautionary measures against infection.
He made the call in Kaduna during a public awareness lecture  with the theme “Ebola: Deadly, Untreatable but Preventable,” organized by the Kaduna Refining and  Petrochemical Company (KRPC).
The consultant urged the populace to reduce their contacts  with people, avoid unsafe sex and dispose of the dead with utmost caution.
“Do not use your hands to carry dead animals, make sure you  wear gloves or use stick to carry them  and always use bleach in your household to disinfect.”
In another contribution, Dr Saleh Sagir, the Manager, Plant Clinic of KRPC said residents must improve on their personal hygiene and environmental sanitation, and to always  disinfect their surroundings.
Earlier, Dr Idi Mukhtar, KRPC Executive Director, Services,  pledged that the company would continue to raise awareness on the deadly ebola virus until a solution was found.
He said the lecture was principally organized to raise people’s awareness on the virus and keep them away from “fetish beliefs” that may lead them into other health complications.

Let's help save the life of Nigerian doctor who got infected by Sawyer

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (pictured above) is a Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at First Consultant Hospital in Lagos where late Liberian Patrick Sawyer was diagnosed with the deadly Ebola disease. She was one of those who diagnosed and was treating Sawyer at First Consultant before he died. Unfortunately she was infected by Sawyer. Her colleagues put her pic and case out at a press conference on Thursday, appealing to the U.S Govt to urgently send whatever treatment they have for the Ebola virus to Nige ria to save her life and that of other Nigerians at risk of the disease.  Her colleague Mr Okubadejo said on Thursday; “She treated Sawyer because she was patriotic only for her to be infected with the virus. I am appealing to the U.S. government to send whatever medication they have to Nigeria fast to save Adadevoh. She does not deserve to die. So, this is the reason for this appeal,” I heard Dr. Adadevoh was one of those who refused to let Sawyer lea...
