Rivers State Governor Laments On Poor NYSC Funding

The Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi who has enjoined the federal government to fund the NYSC effectively, spoke yesterday at a visit paid to him in the government house by National Governing Board Of the NYSC, saying that State government were being made to shoulder the responsibilities of the federal government.

Ameachi said, "I don’t know if you realise that NYSC is a Federal scheme. If you know it’s a federal scheme, why are you transferring responsibility to the State government? Even the allowances we are paying, we are not supposed to pay.
I served in Abuja, nobody paid me one dime outside what the Federal Government paid us as allowance. The vehicles the youth service was using in Abuja were bought by the Federal Government, why then do we transfer Federal Government responsibility to the States?”
Ameachi said the neglect from the federal government was making corps members go through challenges. He said that the State government was virtually funding all federal agencies, saying that if the NYSC was not wanted, then it should be made clear, saying that, the though scheme was very helpful, solving problems for the nation by providing temporary employment opportunities for corps members for a year.
Ameachi urged the Federal government to stand up to its responsibilities which included the NYSC scheme, adding that State governments will continue to assist the NYSC also.
He asked the National Governing Board Of The NYSC to also address this matter before the Director General of the NYSC in order for the message to be past to the Federal government for provision of proper funds to the NYSC scheme.
Tijani Adekambi who led the NYSC delegation thanked the governor for the support to the NYSC, adding that they were in the state to inspect facilities of the scheme.
Tijani said, “I wish to express deep appreciation for the support your government has given to the NYSC scheme and which you have continued to give."

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (pictured above) is a Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at First Consultant Hospital in Lagos where late Liberian Patrick Sawyer was diagnosed with the deadly Ebola disease. She was one of those who diagnosed and was treating Sawyer at First Consultant before he died. Unfortunately she was infected by Sawyer. Her colleagues put her pic and case out at a press conference on Thursday, appealing to the U.S Govt to urgently send whatever treatment they have for the Ebola virus to Nige ria to save her life and that of other Nigerians at risk of the disease.  Her colleague Mr Okubadejo said on Thursday; “She treated Sawyer because she was patriotic only for her to be infected with the virus. I am appealing to the U.S. government to send whatever medication they have to Nigeria fast to save Adadevoh. She does not deserve to die. So, this is the reason for this appeal,” I heard Dr. Adadevoh was one of those who refused to let Sawyer lea...
