Pics: GEJ on the phone encouraging U20 Falconets to go for gold today

President Jonathan, who is currently in Germany, is pictured above speaking on the phone with Nigeria's U20 Falconets who are participating in the 2014 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Montreal, Canada.

The footballers will be playing against their German counterparts today August 24th in the finals of the football tournament.

In the phone conversation, President Jonathan acknowledged that the Falconets have done very well to reach the finals, urged them to beat Germany and promised them a heroine welcome.
"You have done very well by getting to the final. I urge you to crown your efforts with ultimate victory tomorrow by playing with the greatest possible artistry, discipline, determination and patriotic zeal. I look forward to receiving you at the Presidential Villa with the winners’ trophy and you can be assured of the immense gratitude of the Federal Government and the very appreciative people of Nigeria,” he said. He promised them that he would be up to watch their game even though the time they would be playing would be very late in the night in Germany."

Panic in Borno/Adamawa communities

As Boko Haram insurgents flee Gwoza   Fear has gripped residents of some communi­ties around the border of Borno and Ad­amawa states following rumours that Boko Ha­ram insurgents fleeing from Gwoza may attack their communities. Ezekiel Musa and Markus Yalah, both residents of Askira, south of Borno and Madagali in Adamawa State said they fled the communi­ties yesterday to Maiduguri to stay with their brothers in response to the rumour that Boko Haram was planning to attack their towns. “We heard Boko Haram men left Gwoza and have vowed to attack some com­munities in Askira/Uba again. So most people have not been sleeping very well since Thursday. We had to leave because everybody is talking about it. We came through Biu to Gujba in Yobe,” Markus disclosed.
