Ladipo traders cry out to Fashola over damaged roads

The authorities of the Ladipo Auto Market (LACEC) in Lagos have made a distress call to Governor Babatunde Fashola over damaged and dilapidated roads linking the market. The traders want immediate intervention by the Lagos State Government.
The affected roads are Akinwunmi Road linking the Five Star Bus Stop, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Ajibade Close, and a long portion of Ladipo Street, linking Toyota Bus Stop, Oshodi.
The President of the Ladipo Central Executive Committee, Iyke Animalu, expressed the traders’ plight to newsmen during their monthly sanitation exercise. He said the situation of the roads had reached a devastating peak that their spare-parts containers could no longer be brought into the market.
Consequently, Animalu said the traders could no longer get spare-parts to sell, thereby losing lots of revenue on daily basis.
He hinted that the traders might not meet their obligations of paying their taxes and rates to both the Mushin Local Government and the state government if the situation persisted.
Animalu complained that park and pay operators brought to Ladipo road by politicians flouted the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the traders and Lagos State Government by parking on both sides of the road and obstructing the traffic.
He recalled that when Governor Fashola and his top officials visited the market after it was closed by the government last year, the LACEC drew his attention to the deplorable situation of the roads and he promised to do something immediately.
“A contractor came with a tractor and graded the Akinwunmi Road without tarring it and went to a television programme that he had already completed the road work, which is a blatant lie by the contractor,” he said.
