Ebola: Another 2 die after drinking salt solution in Makurdi



Two people who drank and bathed with salt solution to prevent being infected with the dreaded Ebola virus disease (EVD) have died at a hospital in Makurdi,  Benue State capital.
The Director of Public Health in the state Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr. Joseph Kumba, who confirmed the incident, said: “We got the report at a meeting today (yesterday) that two persons died at Ushakaa Clinic as a result of drinking and bathing with hot salted water.”
When contacted, the Medical Director of Ushakaa Hospital in Makurdi, Dr. Innocent Gbillah, said the male victim lived at the North Bank area, while the other deceased patient, a woman, resided in BENADA area of the state capital.
Gbillah, who said the victims were admitted in the hospital on Saturday, however, declined to disclose their names but advised members of the public to always crosscheck any rumour, especially on health issues.
“We did everything possible to help the victims to no avail. One of them died on Tuesday at 7p.m, while the other died at 5a.m yesterday,” he said.

Panic in Borno/Adamawa communities

As Boko Haram insurgents flee Gwoza   Fear has gripped residents of some communi­ties around the border of Borno and Ad­amawa states following rumours that Boko Ha­ram insurgents fleeing from Gwoza may attack their communities.
