The Association
of Animal Hunters of Nigeria (AAHN) in Benin, Edo State has called on
President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack the Minister of Health,
Dr. Oyebuchi Chukwu, for alleged mishandling of information on the Ebola
incident in Lagos.
The hunters said the minister’s action
caused panic among Nigerians and also threatened the livelihood of
Nigerians who depend on bush meat to survive.
National President of the hunters’
association, Comrade Ray Macaulay, who spoke at a press briefing in
Benin City, said they support measures taken to curb the spread of Ebola
virus but that they were against ‘the unscientific, nonsensical and
palpably wicked notices to frighten Nigerians off their age-long bush
meat delicacy.
Ray said there had not been any reported
case of Ebola in the country until it was brought into the country by a
Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer.
He said: “There may be information at the Ministry of Health that we do not know for now.
“We will not accept any explanation that does not bear sound scientific analysis or reasoning. We will react very strongly.”
He urged the Nigerian government to
investigate the circumstances with which the late Sawyer came into the
country with the Ebola virus to determine if it was not a planned
biological warfare.
