NEMA laments growing Boko Haram victims in North-East

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has lamented the increasing number of displaced persons due to Boko Haram attacks, saying it has been faced with growing challenges of handling the daily surge of internally displaced persons at established camps in the North-East.
Information officer of the agency in the North-East, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, said the weekend attack by Boko Haram on Madagali, Adamawa State, where many of the fleeing residents of Gwoza were staying, had led to another challenge for the agency.
Already, the agency said it had registered about 12,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Madagali camp. He said NEMA now faced another challenge of establishing more IDPs camps because of the weekend attack at Madagali.
He said notwithstanding, NEMA has continued to provide succour for victims of insurgency at different IDPs camps in Adamawa, Borno and Gombe states.
He said a team, led by the North-East zonal coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, had continued to take charge of the humanitarian crisis situation in the affected areas having relocated there for now.
He assured that some IDPs who fled to Yola, the Adamawa State capital, would soon be registered and put in established camp, adding that the agency had started working with Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) to keep track of those fleeing into the state.
“The team is working in conjunction with the ADSEMA which has also reported a new influx of the Gwoza IDPS to Yola, the state capital. The new IDP’s are camped at Karewa Primary School and the Labour house in Jimeta.
“The executive secretary of ADSEMA, Haruna Furo, had told NEMA that preparations are in top gear to transfer the IDPs to a central location at the NYSC camp in Yola, the state capital,” he stated.

Pastor arraigned over alleged rape, fraud

A 23-year-old professed Celestial Church prophet, Adewale Adeleke, on Tuesday appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged fraud and rape. Adeleke, who resides at No. 2 Ajibola Street, Agbado Ijaiye, Lagos, was arraigned on a four-count charge of stealing, obtaining by false pretext, impersonation and rape. Prosecutor Chris Takim told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 26 at 6pm at the premises of Original Inn Hotel, Ebute Meta. Takim said the accused approached his victim claiming to be spiritually informed about her problems and had solutions to them through a scheduled prayer session.
