Imo elders endorse Jonathan, Ojiri

The Imo Elders Parliament has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to run for re-election in next year’s presidential poll. Speaking in Owerri, Secretary General of the elders’ group, Dr. Greg Nduka, said the group anchored its call on what it termed President Jonathan’s strides in transforming Nigeria to a greater height despite security challenges since he assumed office.
It also congratulated the president for successfully convoking the recently concluded national conference and commended his administration for fixing many federal roads across the country.
The group stated that it was on this premise that it, “therefore, calls on Mr. President to contest the 2015 presidential poll,” assuring him of support of Imo people.
In another development, the group is drumming support for Mr. Ken Ojiri, a gubernatorial aspirant in Imo State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  saying after its tour of the 27 local councils of the state and having sampled the opinion of the electorate on all the governorship contenders, it realised that only Ojiri was the most credible aspirant, with unblemished track and good academic and philanthropic background.

‘Trainer of female bombers’ arrested in Kano'

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano has arrested a man suspected to be the trainer of female suicide bombers. 16 females said to be undergoing training for suicide operations were also arrested. According to report, the man identified as Ibrahim Ibrahim was arrested in Dala local government area of the state during a raid carried out by the task force. Report said the females were being trained to carry out suicide bombings when JTF raided their training ground and arrested them and their trainer. The Spokesman of the JTF in Kano, Captain Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the arrest, saying investigation is still ongoing on the matter.

Pastor arraigned over alleged rape, fraud

A 23-year-old professed Celestial Church prophet, Adewale Adeleke, on Tuesday appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged fraud and rape. Adeleke, who resides at No. 2 Ajibola Street, Agbado Ijaiye, Lagos, was arraigned on a four-count charge of stealing, obtaining by false pretext, impersonation and rape. Prosecutor Chris Takim told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 26 at 6pm at the premises of Original Inn Hotel, Ebute Meta. Takim said the accused approached his victim claiming to be spiritually informed about her problems and had solutions to them through a scheduled prayer session.
