Dariye set to dump APC

Former governor of Plateau State, Sena­tor Joshua Dariye, has hinted that he will return to the Peoples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) soon.
“I am coming back to the PDP, go and tell the world,” he told journalists in Jos, adding that politics was not about win­ing in just any party, but belong­ing to a group, where everyone could work together for the benefit of the people.
“After wide consultations with my constituents, we have resolved it is better we all work together in the interest of the community. I am not coming to scuttle the work of Governor Jonah Jang. No, there is no con­flict of roles,” he said.
Dariye, who contested for the Senate on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011 said while governor come and go, project Plateau would remain and nobody should feel inse­cure. “We must collectively work together to protect it for generations yet unborn,” he said.
Asked his expectation for Nigeria in 2015: he said: “I am not a prophet of doom, I believe there will be a viable Nigeria, I believe in one corporate Nige­ria and the president will rise above that as I believe people will conduct themselves with decorum during the elections.”
Speaking on the outcome of the national conference, Dariye said when the report would be taken to the National Assem­bly, every member would work together to scrutinise the vari­ous recommendations and see which one would be workable.
He said there was nothing wrong with Nigeria as God had endowed the nation with resources but that people were not patriotic in dealing with is­sues.
He cited the United States of America where despite all the challenges of security, weather control and other is­sues, the people had been able to rise up in unity and were proud of their country.
Dariye described recent comments by some Nigerians that the North was a parasite as ‘ungodly statements’ by those who did not know the history of Nigeria.
He recalled that the same North had used its resources to build big bridges in Lagos, add­ing: “No matter how educated or wealthy one is, we have no other country we can call our own.”

‘Trainer of female bombers’ arrested in Kano'

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano has arrested a man suspected to be the trainer of female suicide bombers. 16 females said to be undergoing training for suicide operations were also arrested. According to report, the man identified as Ibrahim Ibrahim was arrested in Dala local government area of the state during a raid carried out by the task force. Report said the females were being trained to carry out suicide bombings when JTF raided their training ground and arrested them and their trainer. The Spokesman of the JTF in Kano, Captain Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the arrest, saying investigation is still ongoing on the matter.

‘Ebola not caused by witchcraft’

A rights group in the United Kingdom (UK), the Witchcraft and Human Rights Information Network (WHRIN), has called for more enlightenment on the Ebola virus. WHRIN’s Executive Director Gary Foxcroft said superstitious beliefs and inadequate health facilities may lead to the spread of the virus. The activist urged the United Nations (UN) bodies, governments, aid agencies and civil society organisations (CSOs) to demystify the causes of the outbreak. He noted that proper enlightenment would enable communities to understand that the disease is not caused by witchcraft to curb its spread. “Ebola is not caused by witchcraft. Rather, it is an infectious disease with a rational, scientific explanation of how it was created, how it is spread and how it can be treated.
